Holiday Fever !

Hello,
Well you can tell that everyone is gearing up to celebrate the fourth! Here at the shop, we are taking a day off. We will be closed on Friday . We have plenty of wonderful cookies that you can bring to any barbecue or picnic. They are nice because you don't have to worry about them spoiling or having to keep them at a certain temperature. It makes me wonder; how many hot dogs and hamburgers does the US family cook over the weekend?

On Friday we were given the most amazing tasting truffle to try. We are definitely getting the recipe so that we can make and sell them in the cookie shop. We will keep the flavor a secret for now. We love recipes here, so if you have any tried and true wonderfully looking and tasting recipes, we would appreciate if you share them. If we use your recipe to sell in the shop, we will give you a $50 gift certificate!

FYI: We will be traveling a bit over the summer. Starting July 14th we are going to Lisbon to sell at the Farmer's Market. Yea! It will be two days a week. Tuesday and Fridays from 3:30 to 5:30 approximately 1 block South of Subway. We plan on bringing all kinds of goodies. WE can even take orders there as well.

Remember to take time to pray for all the troops that have and currently are protecting all of our freedoms and to say thanks. Let's send them as many care packages as we can that are filled with love and maybe COOKIES!

Fourth of July Cookies!

Hello,
Well, we had a great time at the Taste of Home Cooking School. Even though the weather sure didn't want to cooperate, you came anyway. We had just finished hauling in all our cookies and supplies and had started to set up our booth, when the first storm hit. Man, did the rain come down. A half an hour later, another storm dumped rain. People were starting to arrive by then, and they were completely soaked!

It was fun to see the familiar faces that have visited our shop before. It was great to see the reactions of the people that haven't seen our cookies before. We want to remind all of you, that you are invited to stop by anytime. We still do tours, so if you have a group looking for a fun outing, contact us to set something up.

WE HAVE WINNERS!!! Here is the list of door prize winners at our booth during the Taste of Home Cooking School: Dick Zimmerman, Joni Rone, Sabrina Scoles, Suzy Juelfs, and Mary Carlson.

Fourth of July celebration is just around the corner. Can you believe that it is almost July? Time travels so fast these days. Check out our fire cracker cookies. This is a fun way to decorate your table in a festive manner, and you get to eat the decorations! A neat gift idea is to pick out the candy by the pound that you like and we can put them in a decorative box with a Fourth of July cookie in the middle. It sure is cute, and there is nothing like it around this area. We can write on the cookie to turn it into an edible Greeting Card as well.

Have a terrific week.

Cookies for Taste of Home Cooking School!!!

Hello,
We are so excited at the shop! Later today we are going to get the chance to meet Danielle Edmonds, Culinary Specialist, at an Appreciation Social. She will be signing autographs in the Taste of Home cookbooks that are now available for purchase. Of course we are bringing some cookies that we have made especially for her.

The next thing that we are excited about is that we will be spending the afternoon tomorrow setting up our booth at the Expo Center in Lisbon for the Taste of Home cooking show that evening. Remember, the show opens their doors at 4pm. At that time, you will be able to visit all the booths. We will be offering free sample cookies of our delicious hand painted cookie. We will have Father's Day cookies as well as occasion cookies, summer fun cookies, chocolate chip cookie cakes, decorated brownies, hand made suckers, Baklava (a special treat), all for sale. We can keep your purchases in our booth for you until the cookie show is done. That way you won't have to carry them around. I almost forgot! We will be giving away door prizes from our booth and we will have a show special on our 1 cookie bouquets.

Thank you to all that have stopped by our shop while you were attending the Smithsonian Journey Stories. It was fun to meet you and share our cookies with you. Remember, you can stop back at any time.

I promised you that we would share some of our recipes with all of you. Here is the first one:
DATE NUT BREAD
2 cups Amport chopped dates
2 cups boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tbl shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
1 cup walnuts
Pour boiling water over chopped dates and soda. Let cool. Mix sugar, shortening, egg, and salt. Add the cooled date mixture, flour, and chopped nuts. Pour into two bread pans. Bake 1 hour at 350F. Remove from pans to cool on rack. It is fun to add a glaze of powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, drizzled across the top.

Have a terrific day!

Still making hot drinks at the shop

Hello,
Well, everyone says that the cold weather is finally going to leave us. I'll wait to comment until we see it. So for now, we are still making our fresh ground coffee, steamer drinks, hot Mocha lattes, and teas We have many flavors to choose from for the steamer drinks. Sit, and enjoy your drink while browsing through our many picture books of what we have done with cookies. Ordering is easy, and gives you the chance to pick the colors and verbiage that you want. Not too many cookie shops give the custom design option!

If the warm weather decides to show up, we are ready. We have an Iced Mocha, Frozen Lemonade drinks, teas, and more. These can be enjoyed with looking through our books outside at the front of the shop. We have a table and chairs with a neat sunflower umbrella. It makes you feel like you are off in another country!

I want to remind you about our tours. We have two kinds that we offer. The first one is just coming to the back, learning and watching how we process and ship our cookies. The second one is more hands on. You learn, watch, and actually get the chance to draw on a cookie to take with you.

We are getting some neat cookies ready for the Taste of Home Cooking Show! Be sure to get your tickets so that you can attend. We will have a booth and sell our products starting at 4pm. Sign up for our door prizes, and we can even hold your purchases for you until the end of the show.

If you would like to receive emails from us from Constant Contact just call 1 866 828 3778 or send us your email. We offer cookies for sale that are not on our Website, special deals, coupons, etc.

Sun is out.....It's a good day!

Hello,
A bit chilly with the wind today, but it sure makes it easy for us to get a lot done at the cookie shop when the beautiful sun is shinning. Now that it is summer time, I wanted to remind you that we make wonderful sun shaped cookies. We can put several different face designs on top of the sun. We can write words on the sun as well.

The sun works well for an out door birthday party, a pick me up for someone that is sad or not feeling very well, or the sun compliments the watering can and flower cookies. A person just can't help but smile when you see the sun cookie.

New at the shop! We now have many different kinds of soft and hard candies for in- shop purchasing. It is easy. You take a clear bag and go around and choose the candy that you would like. Tie the bag shut, and the price is determined by the pound, so you decide how much you would like to spend. Perfect as party favors. Perfect as a gift placed in our clear top box with a cookie in the middle. What could possibly be better than cookies and candies together!!

We are going to experiment with egg less cookie dough for ice cream drinks. If anyone has any suggestions we would welcome them. We have a company that is looking for a supplier and we said that we would see what we could come up with. Take care,
~Julie
